Relegated Ajax Cape Town off to court

File Tendai Ndoro in action for Ajax Cape Town

The club said they were now consulting with their legal team regarding William Mokhari SC's arbitration ruling released yesterday which dumped them out of the top-flight league.

Ajax Cape Town have been relegated from the Absa Premier Soccer League topflight after being found guilty of illegally fielding Tendai Ndoro.

Ajax will now seek an urgent court interdict to stop the relegation/promotion playoffs from taking place.

After a ruling by the South African Football Association (Safa), the club will automatically lose three matches 3-0 and have received a R50,000 fine for each offence.

Ndoro has also played for Orlando Pirates and Saudi Arabian club Al-Faisaly in the 2017-18 season‚ but Ajax maintain there were extenuating circumstances‚ including that the player was not paid for some months by the Saudis.

Ndoro has been suspended for two matches, but the docked points mean Ajax‚ who finished the 2017/18 PSL season in 15th place with 31 points from 30 matches‚ have dropped down to the 16th spot‚ which is the automatic relegation position. The verdict was delivered by SAFA arbitrator Advocate Mokhari yesterday, bringing to finality the prolonged dispute between the Urban Warriors and the PSL.

The Arbitrator also heard an appeal by Polokwane City FC against the fielding of Ndoro in their match as well as a Protest by SuperSport United.

Traditionally, May 15th is the day Palestinians mark the " Nakba " or "Catastrophe". The PM said the violence was "destructive to peace efforts".

Ajax can still appeal the ruling with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Platinum Stars' rise was as a result of Ajax having to forfeit the points they gained in matches with Dikwena, Polokwane City and SuperSport United.

Ajax Cape Town are to file papers in the high court this morning to have the Premier Soccer League's promotion/relegation playoffs postponed.

Ndoro was sentenced to a two-match suspension for his misconduct.

"Ajax Cape Town are now consulting with their legal team regarding (arbitrator) William Mokhari SC's arbitration ruling released this morning".

The scheduled fixture in Thohoyandou on Wednesday, 16 May between Black Leopards and Platinum Stars will go ahead.
