Russian company attacks Mueller indictment as baseless

Judge denies ex Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort’s request to dismiss his federal indictment

Robert Mueller may have ties with one of the Iranian-tied Russian oligarchs he's now investigating as the special counsel to the Department of Justice's investigation of Russia's role in the 2016 presidential election.

The company is controlled by Yevgeny Prigozhin, a wealthy businessman who was placed on a USA sanctions list earlier this year and who has ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Attorneys for Concord want the judge to review the instructions prosecutors gave to the grand jury that issued the indictment, which Dubelier called "facially invalid", to "determine whether or not they include information that would support a motion to dismiss" the case.

Concord Management and Consulting LLC is one of the Russian companies indicted by Mueller on February 16 and accused of being used by its owner, Yevgeniy Viktorovich Prigozhin, to fund the Internet Research Agency, the Russian "troll farm" that Mueller has accused of having "a strategic goal to sow discord in the U.S. political system".

Concord is one of three entities and 13 Russian individuals charged earlier this year by Mueller's office, in an alleged criminal and espionage conspiracy to meddle in the US race, boost then-presidential candidate Donald Trump and disparage his Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton.

Wagner wins GOP gubernatorial nod; Barletta to take on Casey
Casey is the son of a former Pennsylvania governor and is among 10 Democratic senators seeking re-election in states won by Trump. Senate race this year could nonetheless play a key role in determining whether Republicans hang onto control of the chamber.

The mission failed as US infighting grew, in part, in 2010 under then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton when the State Department scrapped a deal the Federal Bureau of Investigation had secured with Iran to free Levinson.

It has pleaded not guilty to the charges, and its lawyers are due to appear in a federal courthouse for a status hearing Wednesday. To win access, a defendant must show it is needed to prevent injustice and that the interest of disclosure outweighs the need for secrecy.

Besides arguing that the government has no proof that Concord meant to defraud the US government, the company's attorneys argued that a foreign company like Concord could not possibly have known the intricacies of USA election and foreign lobbying laws "that are unknown even to most Americans".

Most of the Russians named in the indictment remain in Russia, and Putin has said he would never extradite them to the United States to face the charges against them.
