Samsung could sell Exynos chips to more OEMs, including ZTE

Samsung to Announce New Customer for their Exynos Processors in 2019; New Client Maybe ZTE Mobiles

With the threat of Qualcomm litigation receding, Samsung is in talks with ZTE, among others, and ready to license its Exynos phone chips to anyone who wants them.

Furthermore, Inyup Kang, Samsung System's LSI Head confirmed that the smartphone maker is in talks with several OEMs from across the world and will announce their first client by the first half of 2019.

China's ZTE is likely in Samsung's sights, according to the report, as the firm was recently slapped with a seven-year sales ban in the U.S. which means it's no longer able to obtain chips from American chipmaker Qualcomm. It also looks like the deal will likely go through even if ZTE's ban is overthrown, as the company would like to maintain a diverse source of vendors, so that they don't get stranded as in the current situation.

Its efforts like that will put further pressure on the industry leader Qualcomm, which said last month it expects the loss of business with ZTE to lower its profits by 3 cents per share next quarter.

Samsung's System LSI business saw a 27 percent rise in shipments previous year, Counterpoint says.

And users will be able to access their local channels, like ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, when they're away from their home market. The Android enthusiasm started with the original Motorola Droid, but the tech enthusiasm now covers just about everything.

The processor taps into the electronic giant's 10-nanometre FinFET process, which it claims "elevates the multimedia experience in high-end smartphones". Qualcomm has dominated the mobile chipset market for years now, but it would appear that Samsung's interested in doing something about that.

He said Samsung is in discussion with multiple automobile companies to develop chips for autonomous driving, declining to name the auto makers.

What phones would you like to see powered by Exynos processors? Kang is president of Samsung's LSI Logic division and led Qualcomm's modem development for 13 years.

Samsung's semiconductor business reported an operating profit of 35.2 trillion won (a whopping £24.5 billion) in 2017.
