Solo A Star Wars Story premieres at Cannes 2018

It's sort of a shame movies can't just exist in a vacuum without the added baggage of often troubled productions or studio interference. Peter Travers of Rolling Stone didn't like the way Solo played things too safe - something that could not be said about the previous Star Wars movie, The Last Jedi - saying, "Howard and the Kasdans play the series game without ever raising the stakes, defaulting to boring and dutiful when they might have blasted off into creative anarchy". It sounds like the makings of one of those great stories that will undoubtably tug at the heart strings. At times in Star Wars, I can't tell if it's Ford acting or if it's just his legitimate reaction to what's going on around him. We know who these characters are!

"It was my first job, and I was not discriminated against because I was a woman in my paycheck", she said. In fact, it felt more muddled than before.

With Solo: A Star Wars Story, veteran journeyman Ron Howard had a tough task ahead of him. Many of you may remember the character from The Phantom Menace, he can be seen sitting next to Watto during the podrace scene. An opening text note informs us that "it is a lawless time" in the galaxy far, far away, which means anything could happen and does, which makes for a nice change from the usual "blowing up the Death Star" routine. He's a good actor and he fires out the lines better than many contemporaries could manage.

Microsoft Plans Low-Cost Tablet Line to Rival iPad
The new cheaper Surfaces could likewise appeal to students and teachers, and to schools that buy less-expensive devices in bulk. Apple launched a new version of the $329 iPad in March, with a faster processor and Apple Pencil stylus support.

Three years after having narrowly escaped arrest on his home planet of Corellia (called a "sewer" by one character, and we can see why), Han is still trying to cobble together the funds to buy his own ship so he can return and hopefully rescue Qi'ra (Emilia Clarke), his girlfriend and partner in adventure. This can be used in your favor as a storyteller but instead it just made it hard to decide if I liked her or not. Particular praise has been going for the chase sequences, special effects, and the performances of Ehrenreich, Donald Glover and Phoebe Mary Waller-Bridge. He looks good, can play the part but, if it went on any longer and it would have been on the borderline of becoming a caricature of the original character. (More to come on that later). "But yeah, so I get very frustrated with that in particular because you don't get 'strong men, ' unless they're like physically strong men". Year later, he falls in with a tough crew of hustlers led by Tobias Beckett (Woody Harrelson) and they embark on a scheme to rob barrels of something risky for one Dryden Vos (Paul Bettany at his slipperiest) and his dodgy sky-bound cartel. "More than any big action set piece or narrative double cross (and there are plenty of them thanks to a smooth crime boss played by Paul Bettany), it's Glover's mack-daddy, Colt 45 swagger as the rakish gambler formerly played by Billy Dee Williams that will be the thing you'll be buzzing about after the lights come up (well, that and how much you'd rather see his standalone origin story)". They're in love because the film says they're in love.

"Solo: A Star Wars Story" opens Friday, March 25th in theaters nationwide.

One can't forget about the supporting cast that will help develop Han Solo to become the dashing lovable rogue that we know he will become. It had a clear and concise goal, extremely high stakes, and few original characters in the forefront to distract you from the story at hand. Qi'ra (Emilia Clarke) has layer upon layer of guise and you're never sure which is the real her. It felt very much like 2 hours and 23 minutes of a supporting character's filler storyline when it should have felt like a stand alone film.
