Suspect injured after armed confrontation with officer at Dixon High School

'Things could have gone much worse': Former student is shot by officer during gunfire exchange at Dixon High School

The former student who was shot is believed to have sustained non-life threatening injuries and is now receiving medical treatment, Howell said.

In March, a police officer posted at a Maryland high school shot and killed a 17-year-old boy who had opened fire on two fellow students.

A potential school shooting in central IL ended when a school resource officer shot and wounded an armed former student who opened fire Wednesday morning.

"A Dixon Police Officer confronted an armed male subject at the Dixon High School at approximately 8:00 am on May 16, 2018".

"From the angle I'm lookjing at right now, at lot of things went right today when a great many of them could have (gone) wrong", he said. The man was shot and then taken into custody.

The team exhumed bodies and gathered more than 100 environmental samples now being analysed in different OPCW-designated labs. The FFM's report on the Saraqib incident has been shared with States Parties to the Chemical Weapons Convention.

Howell said he "could not be more proud" of the officer who ran toward the suspect and said his "heroic actions" saved "countless" lives. The officer, whose identity had not yet been released, was hailed as a hero for stopping the shooter.

UPDATE 9:35 a.m.: Lee County Sheriff's Office has just sent a release saying the school has been evacuated. The officer who shot him was not harmed and will be put on paid administrative leave, per a department policy.

"The officer's actions at the high school will be closely scrutinized, but the simple fact is, nobody but the gunman was hurt today, and keeping students and teachers safe is the primary job for school resource officers". The high school remains the only school on lockdown.

No students or staff were injured during the incident.
