Sweden to send 'worst-case scenario' war pamphlet to 4.8M households

A booklet that instructs Swedish citizens about what to do during war has been published.

The Swedes are advised to stock non-perishable food, water bottles, warm clothing and sleeping bags.

The Swedish government is reissuing an instructional war pamphlet to all 4.8 million households in the country, informing them for the first time in more than 30 years on the perils of war.

The publication comes as the debate on security has intensified in Sweden in the wake of Russia's annexation of Crimea in 2014.

Recent incursions into Swedish airspace and territorial waters by Russian planes and submarines has also contributed to a more-intense climate in the country.

The online version of the booklet, available in 13 languages, can be found on a website designed "for those who want to monitor the development and planning of Sweden's total defense".

In 2016, the government announced that it was increasing military spending after years of declines.

The leaflet also includes advice on how to spot propaganda, find a bomb shelter and get clean water.

Border Patrol Agent Detains US Citizens for Speaking Spanish in Montana
CBP has long claimed wide-ranging authority in the so-called " buffer zone ", or the 100-mile range within US borders. Ana Suda recorded last week's incident at a convenience store in Havre.

"Everyone is obliged to contribute and everyone is needed" in the event of armed conflict sparking up in Sweden, it says, stating that "everyone who lives here and is between the ages of 16 and 70 can be called up to assist in various ways in the event of the threat".

According to The Guardian, the leaflet is around 20 pages and contains information about how to prepare in the event of war.

The stark informational document is illustrated with pictures of sirens, warplanes and families fleeing from war.

"Even if Sweden is safer than many other countries. threats do exist", said Dan Eliasson, head of the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency, which prepared the booklet.

The public information pamphlet was issued by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), and seeks to reassure people that Sweden's sense of community will ensure the country's resilience and the safety of its people. Updates were issued regularly to the general public until 1961, and then to local and national government officials until 1991.

In recent years there has been renewed discussion in Sweden about joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation alliance, and the country has reversed military spending cuts, conducting its largest military exercises in more than two decades in September. "All information to the effect that resistance is to cease is false", the brochure insists.

"If Sweden is attacked by another country, we will never surrender".
