Tamil Nadu government to seek SC directive to notify Cauvery draft

Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are fighting over the Cauvery river for more than a century now

The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected Karnataka's petition for a stay on the finalisation of the draft Cauvery water-sharing scheme, PTI reported.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra asked Attorney General K K Venugopal to modify the scheme and submit it for approval tomorrow.

The Tamil Nadu government is all set to seek directions from the Supreme Court to the Centre on Wednesday to notify immediately the draft scheme that the latter submitted on May 14 to implement the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal because this is the preliminary step to ensure the formation of the authority (yet to be named).

The Kerala government has also raised objection on the draft scheme.

Further, the State government has also chose to urge the apex court to make Delhi the headquarters of the authority instead of Bengaluru as recommended in the draft scheme. "I wonder why he had not asked the same thing when the Congress was in power in Karnataka", the Minister said and thanked Stalin for greeting the BJP.

And in 2016, a vape pen user in NY suffered third-degree burns after the pen exploded in his trousers , NBC 4 NY reported. Experts say that people who use vape pens should be careful about how they maintain the batteries.

The apex court had earlier rapped the Centre over the delay in filing of the draft Cauvery management scheme.

The Tamil Nadu government, meanwhile, objected to Centre's proposal to have the headquarters of the CMB in Bengaluru. The apex court had on February 16 asked the Centre to formulate the scheme to ensure compliance of its judgement on the decades-old Cauvery dispute.

However, the Centre failed to submit any scheme related to the distribution of Cauvery water within the given time.

The apex court had slammed the central government for the "sheer contempt" of its orders by not framing a scheme to distribute Cauvery water among Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, and Puducherry.
