US Surgeon General helps with medical emergency on flight to Jackson

Surgeon General aided traveler with ‘medical emergency’ during flight

On Wednesday, Jerome Adams, the US surgeon general, tweeted that Delta staff on his flight to Jackson, Miss., asked if there was a doctor on board to assist in a medical emergency.

According to the surgeon general's office, a passenger had lost consciousness and the crew asked for help.

Surgeon General Jerome Adams responded to a medical emergency while on board a flight going to Mississippi. Adams and the cabin crew attended to the passenger who eventually regained consciousness, but Adams still determined that the passenger needed to be taken to a hospital so the plane went back to the gate where they were greeted by medics.

Adams tweeted Wednesday afternoon that he was "glad to be able to assist", and said the unidentified patient was doing well. "Why yes - yes there was".

Weeks after the fire, the government said survivors would be offered permanent furnished social housing within 12 months. Theresa May confirmed the risky materials would be removed during Prime Minister's Questions earlier today.

Adams says he gave assistance to someone on a Delta Air Lines flight to Jackson, Miss., Wednesday. Fellow Twitter users also flooded his tweet with positive comments, saying he was in the right place at the right time.

Adams, an anesthesiologist, was nominated to the post in June by President Donald Trump and confirmed by Congress in August.

After his visit to UMMC, Dr. Adams will visit the Harbor House Chemical Dependency Services in Byram to meet with staff who work daily to combat the opioid epidemic and residents of the facility who are there seeking help for addiction. He took office on September 5.
