Woman Mauled To Death By Pack Of Small Dogs, Police Investigating

Woman attacked and killed by pack of dogs identified

A mum-of-two has been mauled to death by a pack of seven tiny sausage dogs, according to reports.

KXII reported that Tracy Garcia, 52, has been identified as the woman who died in Thursday's attack.

Emergency crews were called to the scene, and one of the dogs charged at them; deputies fatally shot that dog. The owner has requested this.

Six appeared to be mixed with an unidentified breed of terrier, and the largest could have been a border collie cross, but all the animals weighed less than 40lb and none were taller than knee-height.

"This is a bad situation, a very unfortunate situation", Bryant told NBC affiliated KTEN.

'Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the victims. "This is just a bad deal all the way around".

It is unclear at this time what led to the attack, and it is still under investigation. Six of them were about a year old while a seventh - likely the mother - was three-years-old.

Amanda Dinwiddie, a euthanasia technician at Ardmore Animal Shelter, said the "predominant breed" in the dogs was "standard dachshund". According to the expert, while the dogs did not have any major health problems, they were covered in fleas and ticks. They wont be testing the dogs for rabies.

"We were cleaning ticks off ourselves all day", she told the station.

Vets at the animal shelter where they were euthanised described the animals as "very short-legged dogs".

The sheriff said he hopes to have the autopsy results and other relevant information ready for the district attorney's office by Tuesday morning.

Garcia's funeral was performed May 15.

She later died from her injuries.
