13 dead in ‘IS attack’ on Afghan Ministry

Afghan security forces keep watch at the site of a suicide attack in Kabul Afghanistan

A suicide attack in Kabul, a roadside bomb in eastern Ghazni Province, and coordinated attacks in Nangarhar and Kunduz provinces killed at least 33 people on June 11, Afghan officials say.

The blast occurred at the main gate of the Ministry of Rural Rehabilitation and Development, police and health ministry spokesmen told AFP.

Employees inside the ministry at the time of the attack confirmed hearing a blast.

President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday announced a ceasefire with the Taliban after a religious scholars meeting in Kabul last Monday where they issued a fatwa against the ongoing war in the country. "We are told to stay inside for now".

Taliban fighters killed a district governor in northern Afghanistan and kept up the pressure to seize control over some parts of Faryab province, ignoring the temporary ceasefire announced by the government that came into effect on Tuesday.

Referring to border fencing, the COAS said that this is an obstacle for checking terrorism and not between people of both sides. A suicide bomber blew himself up at the entrance to the education department, triggering a fierce battle between gunmen and Afghan security forces, said Nangarhar provincial Governor's spokesman Attaullah Khogyani. At least six people were killed and 30 wounded, he said, but that could not be immediately confirmed. Three people were also injured.

President Trump meets Kim Jong Un
A spokeswoman for USA military forces in Korea said it had not received any direction to cease joint military drills. I'm out of it. "The world will see a major change", he continued through a translator. "In what way?" Trump asked.

COAS congratulated Afghanistan authorities on recent peace initiatives especially in respect of the holy month of Ramadan/ Eid and wished that these steps gain more of permanence ultimately leading towards an enduring peace.

Talking to Commander RSM, the COAS said that Pakistan desires that US/ NATO forces must succeed and leave behind a peaceful and stable Afghanistan, the ISPR mentioned.

It is the first time the militants have agreed to suspend fighting since the 2001 USA invasion, and the move was largely welcomed by war-weary Afghans.

The source further added that the attack has left at least 5 policemen dead while more than 10 Taliban insurgents were also killed during the clashes.

If it holds, analysts had expressed cautious optimism that the agreements could help build trust between the government and the Taliban and lay the groundwork for peace talks.
