Cupan of McDonald was among at least several hundred people Friday at the Liberty-McDonald Relay For Life at Woodland Park in McDonald.

The night is all about recognizing those who have been through cancer; from the survivors, the caregivers, families and friends. Dinner is then provided later for all survivors and their caregivers.

So far, 16 teams have registered in the local Relay and have been raising funds for the fight against cancer in Kendall County.

Mike Ullery | Daily Call Janee Yant, 5, and her brother Jackson, 2, help their dad, Jarrod, reposition the Relay For Life start/finish blow-up after it was blown over by gusty winds before the start of the 2018 Miami County Relay For Life event at the Miami County Fairgrounds on Friday evening.

Meeker is a special education teacher at Watertown High School who is now cancer free.

Cooper was diagnosed with small cell lung cancer at the end of 2017.

The event kicks off tonight at R.L. Maddox Field at 7 and runs through 3 a.m.

Any Newtown cancer survivor or caregiver is welcome and encouraged to attend, and can register by e-mailing Megan.McGrady@cancer.org or calling 914-397-8803.

Mr Farrington told The Newtown Bee that he first became involved with Relay in 2004.

Seamus Power shoots 5-under 65 for opening lead at St. Jude
With the TPC Southwind playing at a par 70 over 7,244 yards, Mickelson called this event flawless preparation for the U.S. By playing in Memphis, the 47-year-old is continuing his traditional build-up for the US Open.

"If it wasn't for (the community), I don't think it would have been as easy for me", breast cancer survivor Jo Ellis said.

Cooper says while her scans are now clear, her journey could be long from over, but shes choosing to stay optimistic. "I know she hasn't been doing it alone but without her I wouldn't be doing this". I Relay because I LOVE Purple Power!

Lockett said having the support of her friends and family has helped her keep going, as well.

Money raised from relay events across the country is used by the American Cancer Society to fund cancer research, as well as promoting awareness and assisting cancer patients in making arduous trips to cancer centers. She battles for herself as well.

This is down from the usual amount of $100,000 per year, Carey said.

"We were so excited to see familiar faces and all of our new teams", said event lead, Joyce McAloon. "Seeing their courage to embrace their own cancer story in their everyday lives is such an inspiration to me".

The 12-hour event will feature fun, food and friendship and is geared to people of all ages.

Again this year, and every year, luminaries were placed along the track by individuals and team members as a way to remember, and to support those affected by cancer.
