Anthony Bourdain Dead at 61

US celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain found dead in apparent suicide

"Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly hard time", the statement read further.

Bourdain was found dead in his hotel room Friday in France while working on his series on culinary traditions around the world.

The cause of death was suicide, the network said in a statement.

Regularly labeled a "rock star" of the culinary world, Bourdain transcended the kitchen to become a best-selling food, fiction, and nonfiction writer, before finding worldwide fame fronting various award-winning cooking and travel series.

US celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain, host of CNN's food-and-travel-focused "Parts Unknown" television series, killed himself in a French hotel room, CNN said on Friday, in the second high-profile suicide of a USA celebrity this week.

In a statement, CNN, which broadcast Parts Unknown, confirmed Bourdain's death.

Robin Williams documentary trailer debuts with rare footage of the late comedian
I saw this at Sundance, and while it is deeply moving and heartfelt, it's a more straightforward doc and not as clever or unique as I was hoping.

Bourdain joined CNN five years ago.

Along with this he also shared a snap of Bourdain from his award-winning show Parts Unknown.

"I enjoyed his show; he was quite a character, I will say, ' Trump added, of the much-loved show that airs on the network POTUS most loves to hate".

In 1999 he wrote a New Yorker article, "Don't Eat Before Reading This", that became a best-selling book in 2000, "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly".

His death comes just days after fashion designer Kate Spade hung herself in an apparent suicide at her Manhattan apartment. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a survey Thursday showing suicide rates increased by 25% across the United States over almost two decades ending in 2016.

On the network, anchors struggled to hold back tears as they recalled their late colleague in heartfelt recollections and urged people faced with despair or who know people who are struggling with depression to call a suicide hotline.
