Where is it taking place, how many teams are playing and how does the tournament work?

Talks on exploring a 48-team World Cup in 2022 have been taken off the agenda at FIFA's annual congress.

The event, kicking off June 14, will take place in various cities across Russian Federation, from Moscow to St. Petersburg to Sochi.

"The opening match is always a very symbolic one - it is that instant when you realise that the big moment you, as a player or fan, have been waiting for for four years has finally arrived", he said.
