Hundreds of children wait in Border Patrol facility in Texas

BREAKING: At Least 5 Dead After SUV Carrying Illegal Immigrants Crashes - Timothy Meads

At least five people died and several others were injured Sunday after an SUV packed with a dozen undocumented immigrants flipped on a South Texas highway while fleeing Border Patrol agents.

"The others were being smuggled", Dimmit County Sheriff Marion Boyd said, the San Antonio Express reported.

According to the Associated Press, a fifth passenger died after arriving at the hospital.

Around 80 people pleaded guilty to immigration charges on Monday, including some who asked the court what was going to happen to their sons and daughters - to which the judge replied that he did not know.

"This, I think, is a ideal example, of why are borders need to be secured", Boyd said.

"We did see the children who were held inside here", he told CNN's Ana Cabrera in an interview.

"I think we need a wall, in my opinion", Boyd said in an interview after the deadly crash. Nielsen said at a National Sheriffs' Association in New Orleans, "We will not apologize for the job we do, for the job law enforcement does and for the job the American people expect us to do". The driver was among those hospitalized, and a deputy who assisted the Border Patrol with the chase found the driver sitting upright in his seat and took him and the passenger into custody. He said the driver, whose name was not immediately released, is known to police as a human smuggler. Two of the vehicles stopped for authorities, but the third vehicle tried to escape from authorities.

Israel Targets Rights Groups by Outlawing Filming of Soldiers
Since major border protests broke out on March 30, more than 300 fires have been recorded, he added. The two sides have fought three wars since 2008 and observe a tense ceasefire.

"So, we are advising the government of the United States that this is not the right way to handle that particular phenomenon of people seeking asylum across the border".

A Border Patrol agent observed three vehicles traveling one behind the other on FM 2664 and suspected a smuggling attempt was happening, the agency said in a statement.

Democratic Rep. Ben Ray Lujan of New Mexico said the location was a former hospital converted into living quarters for children, with rooms divided by age group.

However, the third vehicle - a black Chevrolet SUV, kept going, sparking a auto chase that ended in the fatal crash, killing five. The SUV turned over shortly after on Highway 85, near the town of Big Wells.

"Every day, my deputies are getting into pursuits", he said.

Most of these chases are related to drug or human smuggling, Boyd added.

"These images are eerily reminiscent of the Japanese American internment camps of World War II, now considered to have been one of the most shameful episodes in U.S. history", Bush added.
