Media Workout Notes & Quotes: Crawford and Horn Prepare for Las Vegas Showdown

Jeff Horn training in Las Vegas ahead of Sunday’s fight against Terence Crawford

After unifying the junior welterweight division with a third-round knockout win over Julius Indongo in August of last year-the first boxer to unify a division since 2006-Crawford is moving up to the welterweight ranks, where he will take on Jeff Horn Saturday night in Las Vegas for his WBO world welterweight title. On Saturday night he also is making his case that he is as good and maybe better than Lomachenko, and worthy of the perks that go to the fighter sitting on the throne instead of whatever falls to No. 2 or even No. 1A in the regal pecking order.

And, in a battle of unbeatens, welterweight contender Jose Benavidez (26-0, 17 KOs) will face the iron-fisted Frank Rojas (22-0, 21 KOs) of Caracas, Venezuela, in a 10-rounder.

Numerous fighters from Saturday's card worked out for the media Wednesday at the MGM Grand.

This is what they had to say.

Rushton is a big believer in Wolff's law - that bones grow stronger under heavy loads - and he says Horn's heavy fists, with just the thin horse hair padding over the knuckles, will be dynamite on Sunday.

"I'd like Jeff to give boxing away within another two or three fights, " said the mild-mannered father-of-four, who reckons his son's fighting ability is on an upward trajectory.

"It is what it is and I think Crawford is going to pay the price for his decision to wear these things". "I need to go in there and be focused and not overconfident and do what I've got to do to get the job done".

"I've got the fake finger for the hidden handkerchief, the disappearing box of cards, the boxes with the secret compartments". "I picture winning by knockout and getting my hand raised at the end of the fight. It will come down to the exchanges between me and Crawford and who they are watching". "My preparation has been terrific and I plan on still being world champion on Monday".

"I don't think about the underdog status". Past year I fought only twice, but I beat an Olympic gold medalist (Felix Diaz) and I fought for the undisputed junior welterweight title (against Julius Indongo) and I stopped them both.

"A five-bedroom whatever he's living in is just a distraction, because you start to carry on, believe your own bullshit and blow smoke up your own arse and thinking how wonderful you are while someone's sneaking up behind you to dethrone you".

Horn, the nicest man in Australian sport grinned back and replied: "Yeah, I'm ready". But at the same time, Jeff Horn, he's pretty new in my opinion to America.

"That can be the tricky part with judging if you try and watch two guys - you normally can put your eye on one guy and see what he's doing".

"I fought my first seven pro fights while attending high school".

"It's fight week. It's time to have fun in the ring. The hard work is done". "He's ranked pound-for-pound one of the best boxers in the world, so if I beat him surely that silences all of the doubters".
