Memphis woman arrested after driving around grandkids in dog kennels

Leimome Cheek arrested for keeping her children in dog cages in Tennessee

Police in Memphis have arrested a woman after a viral video shows her traveling with two children in pet kennels.

The children told police their grandmother had them sit in dog cages because there was no room in the back seat of her Ford Explore - adding there were no vents in the back of the auto to keep them cool.

She was reportedly charged with two counts of child endangerment.

Police noted that it was 95 degrees that day in Memphis and that there were no air vents in the back of the Ford Explorer.

The children are OK, according to police, but the same can't be said for Leimome Cheeks.

Temperatures in the area reached around 35°C. Neighbors are shocked. They say Leimome Cheeks is a very nice woman and they can't believe she did something like this.

He's just an unbelievable horse. "I was going to bring four (horses) but I didn't want to buck those odds of, like past year ". He pricked his ears at the sound of the shutter clicks and when Baffert led him closer, he playfully bit at one camera.

In a weird story, a woman was arrested for driving kids around, not in booster seats or in the back seats, but in two pet kennels placed in the back of her auto.

The video was filmed by a concerned citizen who was passing by. "It's a huge mistake, get some help yeah but put her in jail, it's hard to say", Blake said. I only met her like once maybe twice.

Neighbors tells us Cheeks just bought two puppies, which is why the kennels are in the back of her truck.

Neighbors of Cheeks have spoken to local news outlets about the weird and abusive treatment. I couldn't see her actually doing that.

On Monday, Tennessee's child services department told the AP it's looking into the incident.

"I mean it could be an honest mistake". Although she's since been released on bond, she's due to appear in court this week.
