Rafael Nadal, the King of Clay, Wins His 11th French Open Title

French Open Men's Singles Day 15: Nadal value to lift the trophy with ease

Others highlighted Nadal's remarkable record at Roland Garros since first winning the title there in 2005.

He was introduced to the sport by his uncle Toni Nadal, who remains his coach till date. It was important because Dominic is a very aggressive player.

In a 10-minute second game of the second set, Thiem suffered more trauma. The semifinals of the French Open was a different scenario.

"It is incredible. I am very happy".

"He managed to do it well".

He said: "What you did and what you're doing it's one of the most awesoming things that (an) athlete ever achieved in sports, to win this tournament 11 times".

"I'm confident that this was not my last Grand Slam finals, and that's my biggest goal, to get into the next one and then to do it better than today", he added.

Over the best-of-five sets on clay, Nadal improved to 111-2 - it is a figure nearly as imposing as the nearby Eiffel Tower - his lone reverses coming against Robin Soderling in 2009 and Novak Djokovic in 2015 at the French Open.

Right from the start of the tournament the Nadal camp knew Thiem was the biggest danger, having seen at first hand what the Austrian can do when he defeated their man in Madrid last month.

"I am sure, " Nadal said after the match, "you will win here in the next couple of years".

For the 22-year-old Czechs, it was their first Slam title.

Idaho child diagnosed with plague
Health officials stress that person-to-person transmission is extremely rare and this case was not a risk to others. Common symptoms of plague in humans include sudden onset of fever, chills, headache, and weakness.

"I had a tough moment in the third set when I had a bit of cramp".

His picking at the rear of his shorts and mopping of his brow, aligned with his obsessive devotion to lining up his water bottles, are parts of the Nadal DNA. Amazing! One of the best sportsman of all times.

World number one Nadal won his 17th major by lifting his 11th French Open title on Sunday, beating seventh seed Dominic Thiem 6-4 6-3 6-2.

Considered to be declining two years ago, Nadal and friendly rival Roger Federer have now won the last six grand slams.

Nadal, who also won the titles in Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Rome this year, is entered for the Queen's Club warm-up tournament starting next week but says he will consult with his team, including coach Carlos Moya, over the next few days.

But, at 4-5, Thiem's serve let him down badly, handing Nadal three set points.

At 4-4 Nadal hit a second serve that bounced before it reached the net but he shrugged that off to hold. At the following changeover, Nadal was given a salt pill by a doctor and had his left forearm massaged by a trainer. Nadal is 49-2 since 2017 when playing on clay.

He broke the Austrian in the third game of the set.

Unfortunately for him, Thiem began the second set the same way he ended the first. "So it was a demanding two months for me", Nadal told reporters.

Over the best-of-five sets on clay in 13 years, Nadal improved to 111-2 - a figure nearly as imposing as the nearby Eiffel Tower - his lone reverses coming against Robin Soderling in 2009 and Novak Djokovic in 2015 at the French Open.
