Pittsburgh rapper Jimmy Wopo shot dead at 21 in drive-by incident

Local rapper Jimmy Wopo was shot dead in Pittsburgh on Monday (June 18) afternoon. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Wopo had called his manager Owen Seman a few minutes prior to the shooting to talk through a contract with Taylor Gang Entertainment, the label of elder Pittsburgh rap hero Wiz Khalifa, which would have secured him a slot on an upcoming summer tour.

The Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office said Wopo was pronounced dead at 5:56 p.m.at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital on Monday.

The other victim is said to be in a stable condition.

"I lost my brother today and it's the worst feeling in the world. He was destined for greatness and he wanted the best for his friends, family and community", Maglin wrote of the artist born Travon Smart.

Local police said two victims had been hit as they sat inside their auto late Monday afternoon. "An investigation is underway", said Alicia George, Pittsburgh Police spokesperson.

Wopo died the same day fellow young rapper XXXTentacion was gunned down during an apparent robbery in Florida.

Wopo had previously been shot twice as a teen.

On Monday both those stars paid tribute to Wopo on social media.
