Sheffield feels quake that caused tremors across the North

Tremors were felt across the UK

The biggest impact of a 3.9-magnitude quake that was felt in parts of Lincolnshire and Yorkshire appeared to have hit hardest on social media.

The British Geological Survey said the 3.9 magnitude shake happened 18 km or 11 miles below Grimsby at 11.14pm.

It was felt in north-east Lincolnshire, north Lincolnshire and Hull, the BGS added.

Earthquakes powerful enough to be felt are rare in the United Kingdom and rarely hit above a magnitude of 5.0 on the richter scale.

The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, an independent monitoring group, said it had reports from people more than 60 miles from the epicentre who had experienced the tremor.

Another lucky lotto victor in the Thunder Bay area is $500,000 richer following last week's Maxmillions draw. Players must match all seven numbers, in any one set, to win the jackpot or the Maxmillions prizes.

The BGS said it had received a number of reports from local residents who said "the whole house shook for a couple of seconds" another said their "radiator jolted" while a third reported a "rumble with simultaneous trembling".

The BGS added that such earthquakes were not uncommon in the United Kingdom and happened around every two years.

It was a far more dramatic picture than the one painted on social media.

And earlier this year, on February 17, a natural disaster occurred in Cwmllynfell in South Wales which registered a magnitude of 4.6.
