Theresa May calls United States child migrant policy "deeply disturbing" and "wrong"

May has been under pressure from opposition MPs to condemn the policy

Donald Trump is set to visit the UK next month and Mrs May has said that the nature of the "special" relationship with the United States meant 'when we disagree with what they are doing, we say so'.

"Meeting her majesty is the most important thing because she is head of state", he told Sky News.

The site of the meeting is rumored to be Windsor Castle, as some eagle-eyed royal watchers have noted the castle is closed to the public on July 13, the day of Trump's arrival in Britain.

A USA ambassador to Britain has insisted that President Donald Trump "has to" meet Queen Elizabeth II, seen here attending a garden party at Buckingham Palace in May.

British Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday, June 21, said images from the United States of migrant children kept in cages were "deeply disturbing" and that she would press President Donald Trump on the issue.

Speaking to British lawmakers on Wednesday, May said she found photos of children being held in cages "deeply disturbing". "This is wrong. This is not something that we agree with".

"The welfare and safeguarding of children is at the heart of our immigration policy: we do not separate child asylum seekers or refugees from their families".

Originally the US President was invited for a full state visit but after an outcry, it was downgraded to a working visit.

Elizabeth, 92, the oldest monarch in British history, has met 11 of the 12 USA presidents before Trump who has been in office since she ascended the throne in 1952. Britain's Stop Trump Coalition in London is already planning a protest for the president's upcoming visit. Other events are expected across the country, the group said. The petition had the support of London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who has criticized Trump's proposal to ban people from Muslim-majority countries.
