Trump split with G7 allies because Kim ‘must not see weakness’

G7 summit Donald Trump lashes out at America's key allies

Bashing the leader of one of America's venerable allies, the White House escalated its trade tirade and leveled more withering and unprecedented criticism Sunday against Canada's prime minister, branding Justin Trudeau a back-stabber unworthy of President Trump's time.

Trudeau had announced that the G7 members - Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom and the US - had agreed upon a joint communiqué, or formal statement, after a hard week on trade issues.

Trump said in another tweet that Trudeau was "meek and mild" during their private meeting, only to hold a news conference calling the us tariffs "insulting". "Our Tariffs are in response to his of 270 percent on dairy!" the United States president tweeted. And as the 45th President celebrates his first year in office, we take at his funniest pics from the past 365 days.

Trudeau "kind of stabbed us in the back", Kudlow said.

Trump called Trudeau "very dishonest and weak" on Twitter on Saturday and then sent Kudlow and trade adviser Peter Navarro to hammer the message home on Sunday morning news shows in an extraordinary assault on a close US ally and neighbor. The United States' closest trading partners - the EU, Canada and Mexico - have vowed to impose retaliatory tariffs on scores of U.S. products beginning in the coming weeks.

"We're like the piggy bank that everybody is robbing", he said at a press conference as his G7 counterparts continued their two-day meeting in La Malbaie, Quebec, and officials hammered out a joint communique. "The Prime Minister said nothing he hasn't said before - both in public, and in private conversations with the president".

The G7 Nations, the U.S., France, Great Britain, Canada, Japan, Italy and Germany sent leaders to the summit widely known as a gong show where developed countries decide the fate of the World. Kudlow suggested on "Face the Nation" that Mr. Trump saw Trudeau as trying to weaken his hand before that meeting, saying the president won't "allow the people to suddenly take pot shots at him".

Global FDI flows fell sharply in 2017: UNCTAD
The GVC slowdown shows a clear correlation with the FDI trend and confirms the impact of the FDI trend on global trade patterns. Global foreign direct investment (FDI) flows fell by 23 percent in 2017, down to $1.43 trillion from $1.87 trillion in 2016.

Continuing the back-and-forth exchange of words, Trump lashed out at the Canadian leader on Twitter, calling him "very dishonest and weak", and his statements "false".

As Common Dreams reported after Trump chose to slap Canada, the European Union, and Mexico with steel and aluminum tariffs, trade experts and lawmakers have repeatedly denounced Trump's push for a trade war with America's major allies as a "reckless" maneuver that could end up costing the USA hundreds of thousands of jobs.

In response, Trump tweeted on his way to Singapore that he instructed USA representatives not to endorse the communique. Not just double-crossing President Trump, but other members of the G-7, " Kudlow said.

"We have done just that at this summit, registering our deep disappointment at the unjustified decision by the U.S. to apply tariffs to European Union steel and aluminium imports". "We strive to reduce tariff barriers, non-tariff barriers and subsidies", it said, reflecting the typical language of decades of G7 statements.

Kudlow was particularly offended that Trudeau would say this ahead of Trump's North Korean summit. Canada and Mexico are also taking action in retaliation.

Before departing the summit, Trump doubled-down on his assertions that the USA has been subjected to unfair trade duties for many years.

"How is it possible to work this way if once you have agreed to something, two hours later the guy decides he doesn't agree with what he agreed with?" said François Heisbourg, a former French presidential national security adviser.
