United Kingdom to charge European Union citizens £65 to stay after Brexit

Guy Verhofstadt

The aerospace multinational firm Airbus is preparing to withdraw major investment from the United Kingdom due to concerns over Brexit negotiations, putting thousands of jobs at risk.

Further, without a deal he said Airbus believed the impacts on its United Kingdom operations could be "significant".

The company is set to abandon plans to build aircraft wings in British factories over concerns that European Union regulations will no longer apply from March 2019 and uncertainty over customs procedures, instead opting to transfer production to North America, China or elsewhere in the EU.

"We have made significant progress towards agreeing a deep and special partnership with the European Union to ensure trade remains as free and frictionless as possible, including in the aerospace sector", a spokeswoman said.

Almost two-fifths (39%) said they had a "limited" understanding of the issues around the Irish border, while a further fifth (19%) said that they didn't know anything about or hadn't heard of the issue. "While Airbus understands that the political process must go on, as a responsible business we require immediate details on the pragmatic steps that should be taken to operate competitively".

In a Brexit risk assessment, Airbus said leaving the EU's single market and customs union immediately with no agreed transition deal "would lead to severe disruption and interruption of United Kingdom production".

The Airbus risk assessment said operating under WTO rules could cost the company billions of pounds every week in loss of turnover and delay penalties. "Put simply, a no-deal scenario directly threatens Airbus's future in the United Kingdom".

Airbus employs about 14,000 people at 25 different sites in the UK. "Constituents in manufacturing & service sectors who jobs are at risk will be unforgiving of any more MP fence-sitting "constructive ambiguity".

Brazil to take on Costa Rica, Iceland to face Nigeria
The Ticos were the toast of the town in the 2014 World Cup, as they reached the quarterfinals for the first time . Both teams trail Serbia in the group, with Brazil behind by two points. "Maybe we will cover him by two men".

The Welsh Government said Airbus' warning was "extremely worrying". We have repeatedly warned that the United Kingdom can not take the huge economic risk of cutting ourselves adrift from the Single Market and Customs Union. "Thousands of skilled, well-paid jobs are now on the line because of the shambolic mess the government have created over the Brexit negotiations".

The government has agreed a post-Brexit transition period that will last until December 2020, to allow time for a new economic partnership to be struck with the EU.

In a memorandum issued late on Thursday, Airbus said softer plans for a transition period ending in December 2020 were still too short for the planemaker to adapt its supply chain and would prevent it from expanding its United Kingdom supplier base.

Airbus said it could not make decisions about new investment in Britain, including in its next generation of wings, without a clear Brexit deal.

Tom Williams, the chief operating officer of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, said Brexit would have "severe negative consequences for the United Kingdom aerospace industry and Airbus in particular" in any scenario. We have sought to highlight our concerns over the past 12 months, without success.

"In a Commons debate on the subject of Brexit well over a year ago, I told the Government that it was essential we put in place a system for working with other European Union countries that is as close as possible to the one we have now".

Those with Android phones will be able to scan their passports via an app, but this is now not available on Apple iPhones, although a government official said they are speaking to the company about this.
