Woman gored by bison after crowd gets too close

A bison has gored a woman, the third animal attack in Yellowstone National Park this week.

Last month, a bison headbutted a 72-year-old woman, who came face-to-face with one of the hooved beasts along a trail near Old Faithful. Hancock received a hip injury as a result of the attack and was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Big Sky, Montana, according to the release.

Kim Hancock, 59, was with a crowd of people who approached within ten yards of the bison while walking along a boardwalk, according to a Yellowstone National ark news release. The bison became agitated and charged the crowd, officials said. At one point, officials say, some people were within 15 feet of the animal.

She was reportedly in a good condition. Park officials aren't sure if it was the same elk.

There Are Now More Job Openings Than Workers To Fill Them
The department said Tuesday job openings in April reached a record high of 6.7 million - an increase of 65,000 from March. For the first time in at least two decades there are more job openings in the USA than the number of people unemployed.

The latest attack at Yellowstone comes days after two people were attacked by elks in separate incidents.

Earlier this week, two women were attacked by female elk protecting their calves, according to USA Today. The woman tried to back away, but the elk pursued her and struck her in the head and torso.

Park staff do not intend to capture nor kill the bison.

Rangers recommend park visitors stay at least 25 yards away from animals, and at least 100 yards away from bears and wolves.

'Give animals space when they're near trails, boardwalks, parking lots, or in developed areas'. "If you can't maintain these distances, turn around and find an alternate route".
