Actors Who Turned Down "Brokeback Mountain"

Highlights its 2018 Summer and Beyond Films at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace during CinemaCon the official convention of the National Association of Theatre Owne

Apparently, many A-list actors knew how to quit "Brokeback Mountain" ― by not even giving it a chance.

Ossana had previously discussed the difficulties encountered in the making of the film, which would end up winning over both critics and mainstream audiences with its portrayal of a troubled love story between two gay sheep herders in the rural West, played by Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger-who would both be nominated for an Oscar as supporting actor and actor respectively. "They all said no", Van Sant said.

"I felt like we needed a really strong cast, like a famous cast", he added. There was a belief that playing a homosexual man could hurt a heterosexual actor's career and that may have been why big name actors like Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio passed on the film.

Diana Ossana, who produced the movie and took home a screenwriting Oscar for it, told the outlet via email, 'Yes, all those young gentlemen (at the time) turned down the project, for various reasons'. "He was eager and passionate about it".

Just last week, actress Scarlett Johansson dropped out of "Rub And Tug", an upcoming film about a transgender massage parlor owner Dante "Tex" Gil, following backlash that she was taking the role from a transgender actor.

Sir Cliff Richard wins 'substantial' damages from BBC
Sir Cliff denied the allegation and was never arrested, and in June 2016 prosecutors announced that he would face no charges. The BBC has to pay 65 per cent of the $336,000 while South Yorkshire Police, who conducted the raid, will pay 35 per cent.

Of the two leading men, Ledger's role was the more hard to fill, according to Ossana.

"Gus Van Sant wanted to do [Brokeback Mountain] with me and Joaquin Phoenix".

"Van Sant recently sat down for an interview with IndieWire, and revealed that he had two different stars in mind when he was planning on filming Brokeback Mountain".

Damon, who previously worked with Van Sant on Good Will Hunting, told Entertainment Weekly in 2007, Brokeback Mountain is a movie he regrets not doing, but at the time, he didn't feel the project was right for him.

He apparently did not extend that insight to "Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far on Foot".
