Anderson in Wimbledon final after 2nd longest ever Slam match

Roger Federer and Kevin Anderson

John Isner and Kevin Anderson played a six-hour match in the Wimbledon semifinal due to a fifth set that refused to end.

Novak Djokovic was leading Rafael Nadal 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (9) in a compelling showdown filled with entertaining points that was suspended as soon as the third set concluded at just past 11 p.m., the curfew at the All England Club. A lingering elbow injury forced him to bow out before the semis at the next six Grand Slam tournaments, but it appears the former World No. 1 is finally returning to form after a year-and-a-half of frustration. "For us to be out there for that..."

Isner then shrugged off needing treatment on a blistered serving hand, found time to usher a ladybird to safety before levelling the match in another tiebreak off his 19th ace.

The games were passing by and this became one of the longest matches in the history of the game, with both players pushing each other to the limits (Anderson wasted two break points at 17-17 as well) and claiming some big records in terms of the number of games played and the time spent on the court.

John Isner is 8-3 in his career against Kevin Anderson.

The first three sets were decided by tiebreaker before Anderson won the fourth set.

The final set alone lasted for two hours and 50 minutes. "I think I can keep doing damage here".

74 people die in election violence ahead of Sharif's return
The pair, who were sentenced in absentia on corruption charges last week, were taken to custody soon after their arrival. Sahrif and Maryam were later sent on a special private plane bound for Islamabad International Airport.

Anderson and Isner, who were meeting for the 12th time in their professional careers, played an extremely even bout to decide who would take on the victor of Friday's later semifinal, between Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. "I'm super happy. To do it here at Wimbledon makes it even a little bit more special". That's wildly impressive. Believe me, I know she wants to go out there and win.

"They've paid to see two matches, and they came pretty close to only seeing one match", Anderson said.

Anderson had already won the first point of the game but was blown back while returning yet another of Isner's monstrous serves.

"I'm a proponent of changing that rule, for sure", Isner said. "With Anderson standing 6'8" and Isner two inches taller still, both men are capable of hammering down aces at will and have done so throughout the Championships.

The 33-year-old American is best known, of course, for beating Nicolas Mahut 70-68 in the fifth set of an 11-hour, 5-minute match that was contested over three days in Wimbledon's first round in 2010.

In one of the most epic matches in Wimbledon history, John Isner's run at this year's tournament ended in disappointment. For us to be out there for that amount of time, I really hope we can address this.

The three-time Wimbledon remains the only player on the ATP Tour capable of defeating the pair on their favoured surfaces and he relished the cooler conditions.
