At least 4 boys evacuated from Thailand cave: Thai Navy SEAL

Out of cave murk comes shining hope | Bangkok Post: opinion

President Donald Trump is congratulating the Thai navy SEALs and their worldwide partners who rescued a youth soccer team and their coach after more than two weeks of entrapment in a cave.

"He was a very capable SEAL and a triathlete who liked adventure sports." the Thai Navy SEALs wrote in a Facebook post Friday, after Mr Gunan's death had been announced.

"If you ask me if I'm sad, it's like I've died but I'm still alive", she said.

His wife, Waleeporn, said her husband's death had been hard to comprehend.

A former Thai Navy SEAL died while helping install oxygen tanks in preparation for the extraction.

She revealed her husband, an avid cyclist and runner, has been hailed "a hero" for his selfless acts, saying he was a keen charity worker.

His widow, Waleeporn Gunan, told the BBC she was proud of her "hero" husband. She gave a parting message to her husband and said, "You are the hero in my heart".

Yesterday, rescue mission chief and Chiang Rai governor Narongsak Osottanakorn said Mr Gunan was the "hero of the Tham Luang cave", which was met with a huge cheer.

We do not have details about their exact condition, but this extraordinary rescue mission now appears to have come to an end.

People all over the world are rejoicing over the news that the Thai football team and their coach were safely rescued from Tham Luang cave yesterday night (July 10).

When news of his death broke, the Thai king said Saman would have a funeral with full honours.

Waleeporn said pride in her husband's actions was helping her with her grief.

Her father also gave a heartfelt message to his son, telling him: "Daddy loves you".

"Saman once said we never knew when we would die, we can't control that, so we need to cherish every day".
