North Dakota RV Park Hit by Severe Storm, Injuring Dozens

Dozens were injured in a small North Dakota town after a severe storm packing wind gusts up to 59 miles per hour hit an RV Park causing "substantial damage" and "widespread destruction", including flipped and shredded RVs overnight Monday.

CBS Bismarck, North Dakota affiliate KXMB reports the McKenzie County Sheriff's Department said a seven-day-old baby died after being transported earlier to an undisclosed hospital containing advanced life support services.

Officials say ten people are in critical condition as a result of injuries suffered in the storm, including one considered to be extremely critical.

Dozens were injured in an RV park in Watford City, North Dakota, when a severe storm packing powerful winds caused "widespread destruction".

Schwartzenberger said his onsite commander reported 122 structures in the park were completely destroyed. They say another 79 structures had moderate damage from the Tuesday morning twister and 120 had minor to no damage.

Residents were being allowed into the park Tuesday afternoon.

McKenzie County Sheriff Gary Schwartzenberger says at least 28 people were hurt when the storm tore through the Prairie View RV Park early Tuesday. Cleanup operations were scheduled to resume Wednesday. Schwartzenberger describes the setting as a "tornado scene" and says it "devastated an entire community".

"Obviously they are going to be stressed out by what they see because it was pitch black when it first happened", Schwartzenberger said.

Lt. Gov. Brent Sanford has arrived in Watford City, where he was once mayor and where he still has a home, according to Mike Nowatzki, a spokesman for Gov. Doug Burgum. No injuries were reported.
