Chelsea fires manager Antonio Conte after 2 years in charge

Napoli star Jorginho

Chelsea have sacked Antonio Conte and are believed to have reached an agreement with Napoli to pave the way for Sarri to replace his fellow Italian at Stamford Bridge.

Conte, 48, had returned to full pre-season training at the start of the week despite huge uncertainty surrounding his future at the club, but with one year left on his contract the Blues have chose to relieve the Italian tactician from his duties in west London.

The results that followed were below par, and the Blues finished fifth in the Premier League and were eliminated from the Champions League by Barcelona at the last-16 stage, having suffered a 4-1 aggregate defeat.

The club's 64-word announcement was eventually made on Friday, ending with: "We wish Antonio every success in his future career".

Former banker Sarri, 59, will be Chelsea's ninth full-time manager since Roman Abramovich bought the club in 2003.

The former Italy coach took preseason training this week with the players not featuring at the World Cup.

Nets trade Lin to Hawks
According to Wojnarowski, however, league sources said they expect the Hawks to now trade Schroder this offseason. Faried, 28, played in 32 games (seven starts) for Denver last season, averaging 5.9 points and 4.8 rebounds.

Conte regularly questioned the club's ambition and dealings in the transfer window and departs after failing to guide the Blues into next season's Champions League.

After winning the title in his first season, where did it all go wrong for Antonio Conte?

Conte has been on the verge of an exit since the closing stages of the 2017-18 season, but due to a multitude of reasons, the club have dallied in making it official.

In the wake of Chelsea's FA Cup win, Willian obscured Conte in a team celebration photograph posted on Instagram.

Napoli are also expecting compensation of around £4.5 million for Sarri, who is under contract even though he is no longer their coach.

Maurizio Sarri will not be taking his old backroom staff from Napoli to Chelsea and is only bringing in Gianfranco Zola as his number two.
