Downton Abbey Movie Gets the Greenlight

It's been just a little over two years since the Downton Abbey series finale (and if you have already forgotten what happened, I am here to help), but there have been rumors of a potential movie since the show wrapped. The series, which dealt with the dueling worlds of the aristocratic Crawley family in their lavish British estate and their humble downstairs employees, became a worldwide sensation, and launched the careers of Legion's Dan Stevens and Cinderella's Lily James.

The show's Oscar-winning creator Julian Fellowes wrote the film's screenplay and is set to produce the picture alongside Carnival Films' Gareth Naeme, Liz Trubridge, and executive producer Nigel Marchant.

Jose Mourinho Praises Manchester United Target
Jose Mourinho insists England have reason to be optimistic despite falling agonisingly short of the World Cup final. It's a young team, the majority of the players will play in the next World Cup with more experience at club level.

Gareth Neame, the film's producer, said, "Now, after getting many stars aligned, we are shortly to go into production. Julian's script charms, thrills and entertains and in Brian Percival's hands we aim to deliver everything that one would hope for as Downton comes to the big screen". Brian Percival, who helmed the series' pilot, is on board to direct. The ITV/PBS Masterpiece series ended with Anna and Mr. Bates having a baby, Dockery's Mary expecting her second child, Edith marrying, and so much more.

Added Focus Features, "Since the series ended, fans of Downton have always been waiting for the Crawley family's next chapter". Over its run, "Downton Abbey" picked up three Golden Globes, 15 Emmys and a special BAFTA award, enshrining the period drama as the most nominated non-U.S. television show in Emmys history. "Delighted to announce we're getting the band back together!" she tweeted, while Michelle Dockery also shared her joy online, saying that she was "thrilled to announce that #DowntonAbbey is coming to the big screen". However, principal photography will take place somewhere very familiar: Highclere Castle, the Jacobethan-style country house used as the main filming location on the series. No word on a release date, but considering the film hasn't been filmed, that makes sense.
