Duduzane Zuma granted R100,000 bail

Duduzane Zuma

Johannesburg's Specialised Commercial Crime Court ordered Duduzane Zuma, who returned to South Africa last week to attend his brother's funeral, to pay 100,000 rand ($7,440) bail.

City Press reported that he was set to be charged with corruption - apparently in connection with the role he allegedly played in an incident where former deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas has said there was an attempt to bribe him at the Guptas' Saxonwold home in 2015.

Duduzane's case has been suspended to January 24 2019.

Zuma's shadow is looming large over the Ramaphosa era.

Possible corruption charges aren't Duduzane's only concern, as he is also expected to appear in court on Thursday on a charge of culpable homicide. Duduzane faces an alternative charge of conspiracy to commit corruption.

The allegation is that had he agreed, Mr Jonas would have used his position as finance minister to advance the Guptas' extensive business interests - an example of what became known in South Africa as state capture.

President Donald Trump was accused of forcing the North Korea summit "for headlines" by MSNBC host Joe Scarborough . The diplomatic disconnect makes it clear that the nations are not on the same page.

The Guptas have denied that there was anything untoward in their relationship with former president Zuma, but their ties will be investigated as part of an influence-peddling inquiry due to start later this year.

It is alleged that Duduzane was a party to the crime because he was present when the offer was made to Jonas by Gupta.

He was briefly detained upon arrival at Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport this week.

Duduzane's lawyers said they believed the case against him was weak.

Former President Jacob Zuma's son Duduzane has been formally charged with corruption‚ his lawyer has confirmed.
