England should thank Pep Guardiola for World Cup run says Paul Scholes

A former England global believes that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola deserves credit for how the Three Lions are doing at the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

England reached the World Cup semi-finals for the third time in their history and the first time since 1990 and they are living the dream of achieving the title for the first time since 1966.

Paul Scholes, who made 66 appearances for England, feels that City manager Guardiola has influenced how the English national team plays, and specifically pointed out how they play out from defence.

"For an England fan and an ex-England player, we want to see the best type of football - Spain play the best football, Manchester City a year ago played the best football".

"For an England fan and an ex-England player, we want to see the best kind of football".

Comcast increases Sky offer to £14.75 per share
The world's biggest entertainment company and owner of NBC and Universal Pictures gate-crashed Murdoch's bid for Sky in February . Sky's shares closed at £15.01 on Tuesday, suggesting shareholders think the battle is not over.

England's performances have shown character, desire, dedication and of course talent, which Scholes believes is down to the Guardiola effect. Manchester City, last year, played the best football. We do. Spain play the best football. "Why not try to copy that kind of play?"

The Citizens are responsible for four of Gareth Southgate's squad, with John Stones, Kyle Walker and Raheem Sterling playing a starring role so far. Especially when there are players in the side who know it so well.

"He's been an innovator. When I watch kids" football now, when they can get on pitches that aren't flooded or frozen, I see them playing out from the back.

"I don't see (coaches) with heads in their hands saying "get it forward". Brazil are gone. Can anyone now say Bobby Martinez isn't a footballing genius?

Instead, England face Croatia on Wednesday for a place in the World Cup final - and doesn't that just sound incredible?
