Fortnite Season 5 arrives with desert, rifts and new vehicle

BATTLE PASS SEASON 5 | AVAILABLE NOW

There is a new "Desert" biome and two new locations, Paradise Palms and Lazy Links. Where Shopping Carts provided some extra zip for duos, Epic has gone one better in Season 5 with the introduction of the All Terrain Kart (ATK).

Fortnite's 5.0 update is now live and it has brought a number of map changes with it, along with a new vehicle that can fit your entire squad.

Along with these skins, one other outfit was also revealed on the Epic Games website when the patch notes for v5.0 where posted initially.

Of course, Epic is also hoping to take more of your money with a new Season 5 Battle Pass available as an in-app purchase, offering 100 levels and more than 100 new rewards. Squads will also be able to jump the ATK over obstacles. These Rifts act as mini portals that drop you into the same area from the sky, providing a quick escape route if an enemy squad has you pinned down. The ATK can also get a temporary speed boost when players realize a successful drift. The height of the jump will depend on how well players are able to lean back and release at the same time. It remains unclear how exactly this will work, but it's possible that players will be sucked into a Rift and be teleported to a different location.

Widow of Nobel dissident Liu Xiaobo 'leaves China'
Officials at the German embassy in Beijing said they were unable to confirm the news when contacted by Reuters. Patrick Poon from Amnesty International said it was "really wonderful" that Liu was finally allowed to leave.

The endgame will behave a bit differently now, as well, as the center of storm circles seven, eight, and nine can now shift in random directions.

Some changes to gameplay include adjustments to shotguns, which will now indicate how many pellets have hit, and it will be visible within the damage reticle. Shotgun spread will now be consistent with no random variation. Also, after firing a shotgun, you won't be able to use a different shotgun for a short amount of time, presumably to avoid players weapon switching to fire off shotguns faster than they were created to be shot. For the Nintendo Switch, Epic games has also included motion controls which can be adjusted in the Settings menu.

In 50v50 or 20v20 modes, you'll now get bonus XP up to three times per match for reviving teammates.
