Hearing a 'victory notch in Putin's belt': Federal Bureau of Investigation agent in Russian Federation probe

Peter Strzok on Thursday testified publicly for the first time since being removed from special counsel Robert Mueller's team following the discovery of texts previous year that were traded with an Federal Bureau of Investigation lawyer in the run-up to the 2016 presidential election.

"Lisa Page has finally agreed to appear before the House Judiciary and Oversight Committees for a transcribed interview tomorrow", Goodlatte said in a statement. "This decision is long overdue".

Gowdy pressed Strzok on the texts during the back-and-forth, at one point telling the FBI agent that it's "no wonder Bob Mueller kicked you off the investigation".

Gowdy seized on one message that has received particular attention from right-wing media outlets, an August 8, 2016, text in which Strzok, discussing with Page the prospect of a Trump win, says, "No".

Gohmert said he was incensed at Strzok and thought he was knowingly lying to lawmakers, which in turn steered his questioning of Strzok toward his personal life.

Page served as the deputy counsel to then-FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe, and worked briefly for the Mueller team, but was taken off the special counsel's staff when the text messages were discovered.

"Mr. Chairman, there's no basis for that", protested the top Judiciary Democrat, Rep.

What he referred to as a "parliamentary smackdown" and the "Thunder Dome" in the Capitol Dome, Colbert began explaining to his audience how Strzok's anti-Trump tweets were being scrutinized by GOP lawmakers.

Trump rattles North Atlantic Treaty Organisation , knocking its value and assailing Germany
Germany spends 1.2 percent of its gross domestic product on defense, while the US spends 3.5 percent. First Lady Melania Trump attend the evening reception and dinner at the 2018 NATO Summit.

"I hesitate in part because of my gut sense and concern there's no big there there", Strzok said in the text. He said the late-night, off-the-cuff text reflected his belief that Americans would not stomach such "horrible, disgusting behavior" by the presidential candidate.

For a brief moment, lawmakers floated the idea of Strzok having some company when he appears Thursday - as the committee offered Page a spot to testify at Thursday's hearing.

He said he was one of the few people in 2016 who knew the details of Russian election interference and its possible connections with the Trump campaign, and that that information could have derailed Trump's election chances.

On Thursday, Strzok said the message was written late at night after Trump's campaign comments disparaging a slain USA soldier. "We don't want to read text message after text message dripping with bias against one of the two presidential candidates", Goodlatte said, adding that the congressional inquiry "goes to the very heart of our system of justice", and that Strzok and other feds had turned that "on its head". We " ll stop it".

Strzok argued that Mueller did not remove him from his team because of bias, but because of the perception the texts created.

"Congressional subpoenas for testimony are not optional", Ryan said, promising that "we will do what we need to do to protect this branch of government".

After the commotion died down, Gohmert used the remainder of his time to ask Strzok if he had spoken to Clinton more than once and to remark, incredulously, "So after throwing away what you have, with all the bias you have, you've never even gotten a thank you". Guiliani saying that "all the results of the investigation" should "be dismissed" seems to imply that he believes that Special Counsel Robert Mueller's charges against the 13 Russian nationals who are accused of interfering in the 2016 election, should also be dismissed.
