HTC’s blockchain smartphone will launch this year

HTC's blockchain-powered Exodus smartphone will be released this year

The smartphone, which was announced in May without a timeline for release, now has more details published on its dedicated website, including a confirmation of its arrival in the third quarter of this year.

The upcoming device bears the HTC "Exodus" codename, but details about it are covered in mystery and the only thing that we have about this phone is a blueprint drawing.

On May 15, the Taiwan-based electronics firm had first unveiled its blockchain smartphone project, the HTC Exodus, that would reportedly include support for both the Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) networks. HTC will also offer a universal wallet-like functionality through the Exodus phone, and a specific forum will be available to help users.

By working with Animoca (the distributor of Cryptokitties) and Bitmark ("the crypto-based digital ownership project"), HTC will be able to further its advancements into the crypto world. CryptoKitties comes as the "world's biggest game to be built on blockchain technology", and unlike any cryptocurrency, it uses a blockchain to create digital creatures that can users can collect, breed, and trade.

The Taiwanese company hasn't revealed any details about the arrival of the Exodus.

Phil Chen, the creator of HTC Vive and HTC's head of business and corporate development, said at the time that he envisioned a product that would allow customers to "truly own their data [.] without the need for central authorities", Cointelegraph reported. "China has different rules, everywhere from regulations to how Android even works in China". Do you plan on signing up for the early access program?
