In the Ground found a quadrillion tons of diamonds

MIT Researchers Discovered Tons of Diamonds Buried Deep Beneath Earth

"Precious stone from multiple points of view is exceptional", Faul said.

Seismic technology uses sound waves to make measurements, because their speeds change depending on the composition, temperature and density of the rocks and minerals they're traveling through.

"This shows that diamond is not perhaps this exotic mineral, but on the [geological] scale of things, it's relatively common", Ulrich Faul, a co-author of the study and research scientist in MIT's Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences, told MIT News.

The anomaly that started the project was the discovery that "sound waves tend to speed up significantly when passing through the roots of ancient cratons", MIT News reported.

More than a quadrillion tons of diamonds to be exact - or one thousand times more than one trillion - United States researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology reported this week.

An worldwide team of researchers approximates that about one to two percent of the Earth's Cratonic roots are composed of diamonds.

Aquaman Trailer Breakdown - SDCC 2018
Aquaman is set to be released in United Kingdom cinemas on release in cinemas on December 14, 2018. It tells the origin story of Aquaman - a half human, half-Atlantean named Arthur Curry ( Momoa ).

Sound travels through diamond twice as fast as other rocks, so the team of researchers figured there had to be some of the material in the cratons.

The study also included researchers from various national and worldwide institutions, including the University of California at Berkeley, Harvard University, the University of Melbourne and the University of Science and Technology of China, among others. This is at least 1,000 times more than the diamonds that people had expected.

In the present moment, we do not have the necessary technology to reach that deep into the Earth. "The cratons are less dense than the surrounding environment, so they won't be swooped back to Earth, but floating on the ground".

The diamond trove was found through an anomaly in seismic data, which was used to determine the constitution of the Earth's interior, according to the study. At the very bottom of these cratons lie the diamond "roots".

Diamonds are created under high-temperature, high-pressure scenarios and make their way to the surface through volcanic activity.

In most cases, kimberlite tubes have been found on the edge of Cratongen, such as in certain parts of Canada, Siberia, Australia and South Africa. "From all angles, we have experienced all the different possibilities, and this is the only possibility to leave a reasonable explanation".
