Israel to launch first lunar space mission in December

Moon landing SpaceIL lunar probe

The unmanned spacecraft, shaped like a pod and weighing some 585 kilogrammes (1,300 pounds) at launch, will land on the moon on February 13, 2019 if all goes according to plan, organisers SpaceIL told journalists.

As soon as the probe lands on the moon in February, it will plant the Israeli flag and start to take photos of the landing zone. The most prominent among these are Weizmann Institute of Science; Israel Space Agency; the Ministry of Science, Technology and Space; Bezeq and others.

SpaceIL president Morris Kahn expressed his excitement for the project, saying that the launch of the spacecraft is a national accomplishment that can put the country in the world's space map.

The SpaceIL non-profit organization, which has been developing an unmanned spacecraft for landing on the Moon, today announced at a press conference that it would conducting the launch in December 2018.

Yossi Weiss, the CEO of IAI, said conquering space is not just a way to prove technological prowess, but also an increasingly urgent need for a human race rapidly dilapidating its resources.

How much do we really spend?
From left: NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg , Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Theresa May , and U.S. And one of the freedoms we have is freedom of speech and the freedom to express your views. "I don't.

"It's going to show the way for the rest of the world" to send a spacecraft to the moon at a reasonable cost, said Ofer Doron, head of IAI's space division.

"Meet our spacecraft: small, smart and with a lot of Israeli", twitted SpaceIL in a second update.

The endeavor began, reports i24News, when Google Lunar XPrize, wanting to encourage innovation, offered a hefty sum ($30 million) for the person or company who could come up with a relatively low-priced mission to the moon. At this point, it will ignite its engines and reduce its speed to allow the moon's gravity to capture it. It will then begin orbiting the moon, until the appropriate time to begin the landing process. It will orbit Earth in expanding ellipses and, about two months later, cross into the moon's orbit. However, the competition ended with no victor at the end of March, but the competition for the $30 million in cash prize continues, even without the cash.

On the moon, the vessel will transmit data to the control centre at IAI for two days before its systems shut down.

Nevertheless, after raising enough funds, SpaceIL determined to continue its mission. This way, they will raise interest in space among the people in Israel, and will also encourage young generations to study STEM. In recent years, SpaceIL has ignited the imagination of about 900,000 children nationwide, with the help of a broad network of volunteers.
