Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore evacuated due to possible TB exposure

Baltimore: hospital evacuated due to tuberculosis threat – reports

According to WBAL, the incident involved a small vial of a frozen sample of tuberculosis being dropped onto the floor and having its lid fall off.

Kim Hoppe, a spokeswoman with Johns Hopkins Medicine, said a small sample of frozen tuberculosis was "inadvertently released" in an internal bridge between two cancer research buildings that don't connect to the hospital.

A building at the Johns Hopkins Hospital complex has been evacuated Thursday afternoon because of a possible tuberculosis exposure, Baltimore City fire officials told 11 News. Some employees said they were told not to walk down a certain hallway.

The most recent data from the CDC shows that tuberculosis cases have seen a decline in recent years, with just 9,272 cases reported in the United States in 2016.

Trump Says U.S. Tariffs On Chinese Goods Could Exceed $500 Billion
But eventually those costs will take their toll on the average wallet - and it likely won't be simply because of these tariffs. When products on the list for extra levies are declared to customs, the importer will pay the additional levies.

"So far, all indications are that no other individuals have been exposed; however, the buildings will remain evacuated until cleared by public safety officials", Hoppe said.

A Johns Hopkins spokesman said the building has been cleared of any contamination and they have confirmed that they was no risk to anyone inside the building. In the USA, however, it's steadily become a rarity.

Airborne germs spread the disease from person to person. Not everyone infected with TB bacteria becomes sick. It can cause a hacking cough that lasts for weeks, chest pain, and a tell-tale coughing up of blood familiar to anyone who's watched Moulin Rouge.

Because the buildings were used for research, no patients were in either building, according to the report. "If not treated properly, TB disease can be fatal". And some strains, doctors have speculated, are even totally untreatable.
