Kevin Anderson Upsets Roger Federer at Wimbledon

Federer? Djokovic? Nadal? Greg Rusedski predicts how Wimbledon 2018 will end

In press conference, Federer said: 'It's just not one of my best days, but they don't happen very often either. "I nearly could have".

Back to deuce. From there, it all began to change. But Anderson held his nerve to level up and then produced a remarkable surge in form to take Federer deep into the fifth set.

The comeback was just beginning.

"I had my chances so it's disappointing, but he was consistent and solid".

But I also have a feeling, it was a feeling of mine, you know, not getting it right.' About Anderson's performance, Federer said he was not surprised: 'He's got a nice, big serve that he can rely heavily on.

But this time Federer cracked, serving his first double fault at 11-11 to give Anderson the crucial break that ushered the Swiss legend to the exit door.

How hard was it to see this coming?

Federer, playing in the unfamiliar surroundings of Court One for the first time in three years, oozed confidence as early as the opening game when he broke Anderson's huge serve easily and then again in the ninth game before serving out the set in 26 minutes. But there was more. In this picture, Nadal of Spain celebrates winning his Men's Singles fourth round match against Jiri Vesely of the Czech Republic on day seven of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Championships at All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, July 9, 2018.

"Credit to him for hanging around really that long". "Again, I really hope it's an example of sticking to your dreams and keep believing in yourself".

Neither player had been able to break the other one in the fifth set, with each holding their serve, until Anderson did to go up 12-11. He'd only reached one quarterfinal before this year's Wimbledon (2011 U.S. Open).

Anderson did well to hold his nerve down the stretch - neither cowering nor over-hitting as the prospect of the greatest victory of his career inched closer.

Wimbledon: Roger Federer shocked in 5 sets by Kevin Anderson
Anderson scented blood and, out-duelling Federer time and again, he broke in the seventh game to level the match at two sets all. He hit 28 aces against Federer, saved 9 of 12 break points and managed to hold his own in the rare lengthy baseline rallies.

"It's like that with the big servers", Federer said.

He equalled his own record of winning 34 consecutive sets at SW19 by taking the the first two against Anderson.

Anderson then served it out, ending things with a 205kph service victor, and raised both arms overhead.

Having saved Federer's only break point of a 90-minute fifth set at 3-4, Anderson took his first chance at 11-11 and then served out for victory.

Isner has won all 95 of his service games in the tournament. Should Djokovic, Nadal and Federer win, it would be the first time all three played in a semifinal since the 2012 French Open.

Milos Raonic is playing up to his No. 13 seed, and he'll go up against American John Isner.

The friendly rivalry between Nadal and Djokovic has been remarkably even over the years. The powerful Argentinian has won five of his 15 matches against Nadal but lost to the world number one at two of the last three slams.

That earned a code violation from chair umpire Carlos Ramos.

Later, Ramos warned Djokovic for a time violation, but that didn't seem to faze the Serb.

"I don't want to stop here". I'm very pleased to get through.
