If football goes down ‘our country will go down too,’ says one high-profile coach

For those curious, it takes about two hours for the light to click on after saying something controversial at a media event, as Larry Fedora discovered here Wednesday at the ACC Kickoff. "I fear the game will be pushed so far from what we know that we won't recognize it in 10 years. And if it does, our country will go down, too".

Fedora also raised some eyebrows for his comments about why football is part of what makes the United States so great, which he defended by sharing a comment he received from a former military general.

"There will be decline of our country, there is no doubt", Fedora told reporters. "There is no doubt in my mind". And if we stop learning those lessons, we're going to struggle. "That doesn't diminish the fact that the game is still safer than it's ever been because we continue to tweak the game to try to make it safer for our players". "No, not by any means, but I do think that the game of football has had a major impact on who we are as a country".

One after another spoke about what this man did when they were 11, 12, 13 years old. She described how important it is to speak out - even when no one listens.

According to an unnamed general, Fedora said, the US military is the strongest in the world because the United States is the only country that plays football (which, by the way, is not true).

"I'm not sure that anything is proven that football, itself, causes (CTE)", Fedora said, according to the affiliate. Of course. There are collisions.

Last year, a Journal of the American Medical Association study revealed that 110 of 111 examined brains of deceased football players had CTE. Additionally, CTE was also found in three of the 14 high school players and 48 of the 53 college players.
