Liverpool fans will be pleased by Dejan Lovren’s continued form

Jordan Henderson and Dejan Lovren

"I heard people saying I had a hard season but I don't agree with that", the 29-year-old told BeIN SPORTS.

Dejan Lovren insists he considers himself to be one of the best defenders on the planet after he reached the World Cup final.

"People are crying, they are happy in our country - this is something historical for us", Lovren said.

I showed why I took Liverpool to the final of the Champions League and now with the national team, and now I'm in the World Cup final.

"But I like to challenge these strikers and to show to everyone that I'm one of the best defenders".

Asked about the game by one reporter, Lovren told the Mirror: "I don't know what to say in response to this question, it's completely irrelevant, that 4-1 defeat".

This victory over England led Croatia to their first World Cup final and Mario Mandzukic's extra-time victor sealed Croatia's third consecutive win in extra-time or penalties, having beaten Denmark and Russian Federation in penalty shootouts in the previous two rounds. We will never forget this.

"There is too much about me but, whatever, this is what gets me more motivated to work harder and prove everyone wrong". At the 1998 World Cup, they exited at the semi-final stage to France. We beat our record from 20 years ago.

"We have the chance to do something better, and hopefully we can do it on Sunday".

"England are one of the favourites to win the World Cup and you have to respect that", he said.

But after the break, Croatia took control, equalised through Ivan Perisic and then won the game with Mario Mandzukic's extra-time strike.

"I went through a lot of sh** and now I would say it is coming back".
