Loris Karius makes awful error against Tranmere

Jurgen Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has dropped the biggest hint yet that he is prepared to stand by Loris Karius as Liverpool FC's first choice goalkeeper next season.

Liverpool emerged as 3-2 victors but in his second appearance since the Champions League final - when his two mistakes cost Jurgen Klopp's side - Karius made a very large error.

The mistake prone German spilled a free-kick for Tranmere scored a tap in, and underlined the fact Liverpool just can not rely on him heading into the 2018/19 season.

The goalkeeper's latest gaffe came on his second appearance since being at fault for his side's infamous Champions League final defeat last season.

When Liverpool beat Roma to earn a place in Kiev, Tollitt tweeted: "GET IN THERE!"

Klopp defended Karius over the error after the game.

Eight boys now rescued from flooded cave in Thailand
Divers guided them though more than two miles of dark and narrow tunnels filled with murky water and strong currents. It took nine hours Sunday to rescue the first two boys, who were described as the weakest of the group.

He said: "No one likes that goal but, if we talk about that, then the second goal is Milly's [James Milner's] fault".

Speaking to Liverpool FC's website, Klopp said: "I'm not sure if I should have expected something different but it [the reception from fans] was nice, absolutely nice".

"You (the media) can all stop it immediately - promise?"

Does Jurgen Klopp need to make a move in the transfer window to replace Karius or should he continue to put his faith in the German? Our job is to support Loris, that's our part of the deal. I've seen this situation 500 times at least in my life - bam, against the chest, going down.

Karius also made a highly publicised error in the warm-up to the game against Chester at the weekend.

Liverpool have been dragging their heels over signing a new goalkeeper, with top targets Jan Oblak and Alisson regarded as too expensive.
