Made in America won't be held on Parkway past 2018

JAY-Z blasts Philly mayor after Made In America Festival told to move locations

Jay-Z said Wednesday he's disappointed that Philadelphia is booting his annual music festival from the city's grandest boulevard, accusing the mayor of having "zero appreciation for what Made In America has built alongside the phenomenal citizens of this city". In a new op-ed for The Philadelphia Inquirer, Jay-Z says that the city's mayor, Jim Kenney, has barred the festival from being held on the parkway in 2019, and sent a "legal letter to stop the 2018 event", which has already been announced and is scheduled to take place in September. A city spokeswoman said the event was originally intended as a Labor Day weekend attraction during a slow time but that "may no longer be necessary". He said the festival has since 2012 "had a positive $102.8 million economic impact".

Although they say they look forward to continuing a partnership with Jay Z and his festival, it seems as though Jay isn't so pleased with the move since the eviction from the park comes without warning and without an official meeting to discuss the matter. This year's Made In America lineup features Nicki Minaj, Post Malone, Meek Mill, Diplo, Zedd, Miguel, and more. He asks: "How does an administration, merely discard an event that generates millions in income and employs the city's people as if we are disposable now that we have served our goal?" "Made in America employs more than 1,000 Philadelphians each day and 85 percent of our partners are Philadelphia-based companies", and added that "Made in America has donated $2.9 million to the United Way of Philadelphia and Southern New Jersey". But the growth in tourism since then means an event of that scale "may no longer be necessary", she said in an earlier statement to philly.com.

Jay Z asked in his statement, which he released as an op-ed to the website, "How does an administration merely discard an event that generates millions ... and employs the city's people as if we are disposable now that we have served our objective?"
