Magic Leap Will Demo in Select AT&T Stores, Ships This Year

AT&T Gets Exclusive Deal to Sell Magic Leap's AR/VR Headset

"Today we're excited to announce that we have completed our Series D equity funding round with an investment from AT&T", said Magic Leap Media Contact Julia Gaynor.

AT&T has also signed on to be the exclusive wireless distributor of Magic Leap, which is created to use either WiFi or wireless data to connect to the internet.

Magic Leap's Colman Bryant demonstrated how the system can track ungloved hands without controllers.

"We've joined with AT&T because we believe in a combined vision of expanding high-speed networks, edge computing, and deep integration with creative content", said Rony Abovitz, founder, president and CEO of Magic Leap.

Eye tracking and head tracking are both included, as well.

Also: AT&T said Wednesday that it will be the sole wireless carrier for the headset, bringing it to AT&T stores in cities including San Francisco, Boston, and Los Angeles.

While the company has been working in secret for years, releasing little information about its products, competitors such as Facebook Inc have gained ground with its Oculus virtual reality headsets. The company has been showing off its "Creator Edition" product, a set of goggles and a portable, wearable computer to power them.

The well-funded start-up raised $461 million in its latest funding round in March, led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's sovereign investment arm, taking the total funding to over $2.3 billion to date.

In addition to unveiling this new partnership, Magic Leap will offer "closer look" at Magic Leap One in an event streaming on Twitch later today.

These are the Lightwear glasses, the Lightpack computing platform, and the Control handheld controller.

Magic Leap One promises to lay virtual objects over the real world in an experience more advanced than other headsets including HoloLens. And the controller offers "six degrees of freedom" with a thumb-operated control pad.
