Richarlison undergoes Everton medical as transfer from Watford draws closer

Emre Mor of Borussia Dortmund celebrates after scoring a goal during the preseason friendly match between Urawa Red Diamonds and Borussia Dortmund at Saitama Stadium

Watford striker Richarlison has arrived on Merseyside and begun a medical ahead of his proposed move to Everton, Sky Sports News understands.

Toffees boss Marco Silva signed Richarlison for £11.5m from Fluminese in August 2017 when he was in charge at Vicarage Road, after the player had impressed in the Under-20 World Cup.

And it is understood Richarlison was at the club's Finch Farm training ground having a medical on Monday morning as they looked to finalise a deal worth up to £40million.

Richarlison, 21, joined Watford last summer from Fluminense for a fee of around £11.5 million.

The Congolese worldwide made 16 league appearances last season, yet struggled to find his old form and scored just one goal and recorded no assists in those matches.

He scored five goals in his first 12 Premier League matches.

According to the Mirror, the Toffees are willing to pay the exorbitant sum as a "peace offering" to Watford, due to last year's allegations of trying to nick then-manager Marco Silva - a complaint that hasn't yet been resolved.

Watford subsequently made a decision to dispense with Silva's services in January, saying the "unwarranted approach" had been the "catalyst", leading to "a significant deterioration in both focus and results".

Richarlison has not netted since November, but Silva has been keen to bring him to Everton since he succeeded the sacked Sam Allardyce on 31 May.
