Riyad Mahrez happy to fight for his place at Man City

Mahrez insists he has joined Man City to fight for the big trophies

Riyad Mahrez faced the press at the City Football Academy today after joining Manchester City from Leicester City for a club-record fee on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola's side announced Mahrez as their first new arrival for the coming season earlier this week, and the Algerian will reportedly receive a weekly wage of £200 000 (R3.56 million), according to the Daily Mirror. The Champions League is for big clubs and Manchester City are a big club.

After four failed bids for the Algeria worldwide, City finally got their man for a club-record fee of £60m, signing the 27-year-old to a five-year deal at the Etihad.

"It's a club which wants to win the Champions League". Last season they lost in the quarter-final and I know they have the ambition to go further the next season. I want to be part of this.

"The prices have been big in every country".

Mahrez - who is happy playing anywhere across the attacking areas - has serious competition from Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and Bernardo Silva. You can improve yourself and the squad.

"I'll give my best to achieve for the club". I wanted to work under him and play for this club.

'They broke all the records in the Premier League which is unbelievable and I never wavered.

"If I moved sooner, maybe i would have been happy, now I'm happy to be here. the most important thing". I thought what City did past year was wonderful, it was unbelievable to break all those Premier League records, but I am confident about myself.

Mahrez also heaped praise on England after they were knocked out of the World Cup by Croatia on Wednesday night.
