Rudy Giuliani touts Russian hacking indictments as 'good news for all Americans'

Russias President Vladimir Putin and President Donald Trump talk as Vietnams President Tran Dai Quan right looks on during the family

Vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee Mark Warner said if the meeting was to forward, Americans need to be in the room with the pair. Nebraska Sen. Ben Sasse said in a statement that "all patriotic Americans" should know Putin is not "the President's buddy".

The indictments come just days before the president is scheduled to hold a summit with Russia's Vladimir Putin in Helsinki.

Trump said Tuesday that his meeting with Putin "may be the easiest" out of all his other meetings with North Atlantic Treaty Organisation leaders this week. "And, today, Special Counsel Mueller indicted twelve Russian military officers for hacking the Democratic National Committee - a direct attack on our democracy".

Podesta said in an interview that he wouldn't call on Trump to cancel the meeting with Putin.

"Cancel your ridiculous Putin summit and get your butt back on a plane to the United States", tweeted Sen.

He said he briefed the president earlier this week about the indictments, but declined to describe Trump's reaction.

"I think that we're being hurt very badly by the rigged witch hunt", Trump told reporters Friday during a press conference with British Prime Minister Theresa May".

On Friday, several Democratic leaders also weighed in, in some instances urging the president to consider canceling his summit with Putin.

Other Democrats joining the call to jettison the meeting included Senator Richard Blumenthal of CT and Representative Adam Schiff of California, the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.

But less than three hours later, the California Democrat joined the chorus of party members calling for the meeting to be canceled.

"Today's indictment is a result of the hard work of America's law enforcement and intelligence officials who dedicate their lives to bringing to justice those who wish to do us harm", McCain, who has been sidelined while battling cancer, said in a statement. Schiff said on CNN that Trump should "cut his losses on this disastrous trip to Europe" and return without engaging with the Russian leader. Instead, she said Trump should use the meeting to secure a comprehensive pact that the Russians will stop their "ongoing attacks on our democracy".
