Ryanair to cancel up to 30 Ireland - UK flights on Thursday

Flights to Tomorrowland could be cancelled due to air staff strikes

The airline has said only flights between Ireland and the United Kingdom will be affected.

This news comes after the announcement that roughly 100 Ryanair pilots based out of Dublin airport would be holding a 24 hour strike on 12th July.

Ryanair has confirmed that it is to cancel up to 30 flights to and from Ireland on Thursday.

It said these were routes on which customers could transfer "readily" to other flights on the day of the strike.

It said it would also help customers travelling to the United Kingdom with alternative flights and ferries.

"All Ireland to Europe flights will operate as normal", it said.

Aunt Meghan: Duchess of Sussex stuns in green at Prince Louis’ christening
The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, who officiated their royal wedding on May 19, also presided over the christening. It comes "at the request of Her Majesty's Government", a spokesperson for Kensington Palace said.

Fórsa, the workers union representing Ryanair cabin and ground crews, announced last week that they would hold a 48 hour strike between 25th and 26th July which could affect flights to and from locations including but not limited to Spain, Italy, Portugal and Belgium. However, its parent union Fórsa has said the strike is still likely to go ahead.

"Ryanair pilots have already secured a 20% pay increase, earn up to €200,000 p.a., work 5 days-on, followed by 4 days-off (a double bank holiday weekend at the end of every week), enjoy rapid promotions and unmatched job security".

"These coordinated strike threats are created to cause unnecessary disruption to customers and damage Ryanair's low fare model, for the benefit of high fare competitor airlines in Ireland and Germany", it said.

Irish national broadcaster RTÉ reports that Ryanair is understood to be working on a contingency plan, and is expected to notify passengers on Tuesday of any potential disruption to their flights.

"It is unacceptable that competitor airline pilots are actively organising strikes by Ryanair's pilots when these airlines will be the direct beneficiaries of any such disruption".
