Samsung to open world’s largest mobile phone factory in Noida today

Noida now has the largest mobile factory in the world

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday will visit Noida in Uttar Pradesh, to inaugurate a new unit of Samsung plant.

Not China or South Korea - and certainly not the United States - the tag of housing the world's largest mobile factory has straight away put Noida on top of the world manufacturing map when it comes to consumer electronics.

The South Korean president Moon Jae-in is on an official visit in India. The company had first set up the plant in 1997 for manufacturing television sets in India.

In a statement issued then, the company had said: "The expansion of the plant on an additional 35 acres of land adjacent to the current facility will double the production capacity of both mobile phones and refrigerators".

According to the report, Samsung's new facility will not only help in mobile manufacturing but also double its production capacity of consumer electronics like refrigerators and flat-panel televisions - which will further consolidate the company's leadership in these segments. Here's a look at everything we know about Samsung's new mobile phone factory.

While announcing the investment a year ago, the company had said that it would position the Noida plant as a major production hub and create about 5,000 new jobs.

Samsung's new 35-acre facility in Sector 81, Noida, Uttar Pradesh will be one of the biggest in the world.

David Davis quits as Brexit Secretary in major blow to May
One of Davis's deputies in the Department for Exiting the EU (DexEU), Steve Baker, is also reported to have resigned. That agreement, at her Chequers country retreat, was meant to kick-start talks that have been stalled for months.

Samsung plans to make India its export hub for countries in Europe, Middle East and Africa. Keep in mind that the 120 million means feature phones as well.

India's smartphone market grew 14% with total shipments of 124 million units in 2017, the fastest pace of growth among the top 20 markets, according to International Data Corp.

"For Samsung, India is among the top five smartphone markets globally". Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi Corp. said in April it will set up three more factories in India.

Established in 1995, Samsung India laid the foundation stone of Noida plant next year.

The company is aiming to increase the overall production capacity by 50 percent, which is now at 10 percent.

Samsung has two manufacturing plants in India.

"This will help Samsung bring some local features to the devices powered by R&D here". After smartphones, they can go into building top-of-the-line products in other categories like TVs, refrigerators as advance manufacturing in India still lags behind.
