Serena Williams headed to 10th Wimbledon final

Jelena Ostapenko

Kerber, 30, lost in the 2016 final to Serena Williams - and the pair will meet again if the American beats Julia Gorges in the second semi-final.

Goerges, the 13th seed, was playing in her first Grand Slam semifinal.

Kerber was beaten by Williams in the 2016 Wimbledon showpiece.

Serena Williams is back, for real.

She then gained an early break in the second set on her way to the win.

Goerges had come into her first Grand Slam semi-final having belted more winners (199), more aces (44) and more unreturned serves (113) than anyone else in the women's draw but those statistics counted for little when she came up against an opponent who is in hot pursuit of a record-equalling 24th major.

Germany's Angelique Kerber proved too steady for error-strewn Latvian Jelena Ostapenko as she reached her second Wimbledon final with a comfortable 6-3 6-3 victory on Thursday.

North Atlantic Treaty Organisation states to increase defence funding
Nonetheless, he has simultaneously asserted that the USA should pay less. " NATO is much stronger now than it was two days ago", Trump said.

"I didn't expect to play this well so quickly into my comeback", Williams said after the match. That first game consisted of eight points: Three were unforced errors by Ostapenko, including a double-fault to begin the proceedings; the other five were winners by her, including a 100 miles per hour ace to close the hold. With the match at 2-2, Williams kicked off a streak of five consecutive games won.

However, the 14 errors meant that Kerber, at the third attempt, broke to lead 4-3.

Ostapenko suddenly began to land some big blows, clawing back a couple of games and had a point to narrow the deficit to a single game as Kerber showed late nerves.

There were no drawn-out points in the early going, no lengthy baseline exchanges, essentially because Ostapenko wouldn't allow it.

Showing her first sign of nerves Kerber wasted a match point and was broken when she served at 5-1.

The 30-year-old was gifted point after point as Ostapenko's aggressive game backfired in a blaze of unforced errors.

Consecutive Ostapenko backhand errors handed 10th seed Kerber the first break and she proceeded to win seven of the next eight games basically by defending well and serving solidly to move into a 5-1 lead in the second set.
