A Riverside gun store has released surveillance video that apparently shows actor Sacha Baron Cohen - disguised as a "Hungarian immigrant" - unsuccessfully attempting to purchase a firearm previous year.
I'm like, 'This guy does not look like a Hungarian immigrant.' Tight-ass leather trousers, a beard.
'We're talking to the people they don't wanna give us an answer, we basically told them to get the f*** out, you guys are all full of s***, have a great day, get out, ' Sweidan said.
A California gun store owner said on Wednesday he kicked Sacha Baron Cohen out of his shop after the comedian attempted to trick him into thinking he was a Hungarian immigrant looking to buy a gun.
"I'm looking at the producer, and I'm just like, 'Am I being fooled right here?'" Sweidan recounted to KTTV. "And I just kept looking at the guy and I was like, you're Borat.'" he said, recognizing Cohen from the 2006 film. "And make a mockery of what?" He asked the owner, Norris Sweidan, to participate in a documentary. Most recently, he tricked several gun rights activists and congressmen into appearing in a fake ad for a program that would arm students as young as four years old in a mock effort to curtail school shootings.
The incident, which took place previous year, was likely meant to be a segment on "Who Is America", which premiered on Showtime this week.
"You've got some gun advocate holding a bunny on some gun?"
"There has been widespread misinformation over the past week about the character of Billy Wayne Ruddick Jr., Ph.D., performed by Sacha Baron Cohen on the Showtime comedy series 'Who Is America?'" a network spokesperson said, according to Variety.
Sweidan told the station the joke was on Cohen and Showtime. "They want a real story? Well give you a real story".
One of Cohen's unsuspecting guests, Philip Van Cleave, the president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League, who recognized that he was being duped after filming his part for the show, wrote a 1,400-word Facebook post recapping his experience on the project as a "warning" to fellow gun advocates and conservatives way back in April, The Daily Beast reported.
